Memory Robin Williams - Review Robin Williams Movies

Pic-Robin-WilliamsOn Monday (August 11, 2014), Robin Williams committed suicide in his home at the age of 63, forever leaving his grieving family. Tortured by severe depression for a long time, he finally determined to escape from overwhelming sadness in this way. No matter how hard to accept the truth, we have to say farewell to this great comedian.

Robin Williams' death reminded me of this quote "The loneliest people are the kindest. The saddest people smile the brightest. The most damaged people are the wisest. All because they do not wish to see anyone else suffer the way they do." He devoted all his life to please audiences but failed to rescue himself from endless loneliness. Why? Let's look back his movies, perhaps we can find clues.

Dead Poets Society
John Keating, this characteristic new English teach broke rules in those days, encouraging his students to throw away their books, learn to love poetry and seize the day. However, this inspirational captain was fired. Robin Williams in this film freed students' souls but got walking papers finally.

Good Will Hunting
Williams acted a mentor again in Good Will Hunting, helping the wayward math genius Will Hunting find his identity and open his heart. We are moved by precious friendship between Will Hunting and professor. On the contrary, we can read poignant story that both of them yield to blows in tough life.

Good Morning, Vietnam
Williams turned to as a DJ serving for Armed Forced Radio Service. He showed unpredictable humor and extraordinary rock & roll music in order, becoming favorable among his colleagues and listeners. However, he was off the air for his improper words to call soldiers to oppose war. At the end of this film, he came back to America alone.

Most of characters Robin Williams played expressed dissatisfaction with current education, army, even whole world through exaggerated gestures, loud voices and eccentric activities. He ripped off masks covered on the sordid world to disclose the cruel reality. Maybe Mr. Williams' took those characters as himself, frustrated at status quo, out of tone with surroundings.

Robin Williams is forever present in the moment. As his wife Susan Schneider said, it is the best way to remember this great comedian to focus on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to us.
